12 Days of NASCAR gets me through
Ok, I’m suffering from some major withdrawal symptoms right now. I should be tuning into SPEED channel this weekend to see hours of NASCAR racing coverage – but it’s not there. No races on ESPN or FOX either – I’d even settle for a Digger sighting right about now; seriously, did I just say that? Oh boy, I’ve got NASCAR withdrawal really bad.
Every year, long about mid to late December, I start going through NASCAR withdrawal … no more banquets on TV, the grant distribution/tree lighting for Speedway Children’s Charities has come and gone, even the Snowball Derby is over (congrats to Kyle “Shrubby” Busch for getting the last win of 2009).
I always say that I’m going to tape a bunch of races throughout the season to watch during the off-season, but never do. I know I can catch some races on ESPN Classics once a week or so, but since they’re on while I’m at work, to be quite honest, I forget they’re on.
I do have one thing to look forward to … NASCAR.com sent me an email letting me know that my championship t-shirt has been shipped and it should be arriving sometime next week. Then there’s the Bodine Bobsled Challenge sometime in January to look forward to as well. Before you know it, Daytona will here … hurry Daytona. I don’t know how much more of this I can take.
Several years ago, during one of the off-seasons, I came up with my own NASCAR version of the 12 Days of Christmas to help me get through my withdrawal symptoms. I’ve tweaked it just a bit each year. Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, I hope you enjoy it. And whatever holiday you celebrate during this time of year, I hope it is a very joyous time for you and your family.
